This morning at approximately 7:30am Officer Michael Alers of the south end station was sent to the area of Rockdale Ave. and Luke St. regarding a three vehicle accident. One of the vehicles being a school bus with two children on board.

A 32 year old New Bedford woman was driving her Chrysler Van north on Rockdale Ave. with her two young children on board. She attempted to make a U-turn in the middle of the street to drop off her kids at the Little People’s College nearby.

It was at this time that she was struck from behind by a New Bedford man who was driving south on Rockdale Ave in a Toyota. This caused her to careen into the northbound lane and strike a school bus that was traveling north. (Not head on, but at an angle)

The woman and her two children were taken to St. Luke’s Hospital by ambulance for observation. The female bus driver and her two students were also taken to St. Luke’s Hospital by ambulance for observation. The driver of the van is being cited for failing to yield in traffic.
