Two New Bedford City Councilors come out against Massachusetts becoming a Sanctuary State

New Bedford City Council President Joe Lopes and City Councilor Naomi Carney have filed a written motion “requesting that New Bedford City Council go on record against Massachusetts House Bill 3573 and Senate Bill 1401 which would establish Massachusetts as a Sanctuary State.”

In 2018, New Bedford State Senator Mark Montigny voted in favor of making Massachusetts a Sanctuary State.

  1. Thank God we have people on the City Council with some common sense. Sanctuary states/cities are a harbor for illegal immigrants who commit additional crimes with no fear of being deported. Illegal immigrants who commit crimes should be sent back to their home country because they’ve shown that they’re using their opportunities not to better themselves, but to take advantage of the system and victimize U.S. citizens.
