At approximately 12:11am on Monday morning the New Bedford Police received multiple reports of ‘shots fired’ on Tallman Street.
Upon arrival to the corner of Tallman Street and Belleville Avenue adjacent from Riverside Park first responders came upon a white Acura sedan in the road parked at a stop sign with an injured, unconscious man inside. The vehicle was “riddled” with gunshot holes and there was a pistol on the ground. At this time police are unsure if the gun belongs to the victim or the suspected shooter.
The New Bedford Police Department immediately put out a BOLO for a Gray Honda Civic. Preliminary investigation suggests that the incident likely began at Tallman Street and Holly Street before concluding at the corner of Tallman St. and Belleville Avenue.
The victim, Lorenzo Gomes, 20, of New Bedford was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford and was dead on arrival. having succumbed to his wounds during transport.
“I think it’s so sad that people are killing each other like animals,” said resident Linda Miguel Gibau. “What kind of children are we bringing in this world? It breaks my heart to hear things like that I just cannot understand how some people can be so evil. Life don’t mean anything for some people.”
Another local, Anthony Cahill stated that, “This city went from a nice and clean Portuguese fishing city to a drug infested, gang infested and illegal immigrant infested city. I believe New Bedford is like #78 on the list of top 100 most dangerous cities in US. That’s HORRIBLE and anyone who thinks that’s OK has something wrong with them. Change policies and the city will change. The massively FAILED Left has destroyed enough already!
