“Shortly after 2:00pm Sunday afternoon, New Bedford Fire Department Communications received an automatic fire alarm activation and 911 calls reporting a dryer fire at Delken Laundry located at 1331 Cove Road.

First arriving crews located a commercial dryer on fire which had extended to the roof. The laundromat is located in a large one-story commercial building with a rolled rubber roof. The fire extended from the dryer vent, involved other rooftop units, and had extended approximately 25’ from the dryer vent.

Members from Engines 1, 6, 7, along with Ladders 1 & 3, worked to open up a large area of roof in order to extinguish the fire. Command Units 1 & 2 also responded to the fire scene.

The cause of the fire was investigated by the Fire Investigation Unit and determined to be accidental. The laundromat along with an adjoining vacant commercial space also suffered water damage. All workers and patrons safely evacuated and no injuries were reported.

NBEMS and NBPD also provided assistance.” -New Bedford Fire Department.
