New Bedford City Councilors ask police chief to address increased crime in north end

Several New Bedford City Council members filed late motions asking Police Chief Cordeiro to address the increased crime in New Bedford’s north end. The motions will be addressed in tonight’s City Council session.

L1. WRITTEN MOTION, Councillors Coelho, Abreu, Martins and Carney, requesting, that Police Chief Cordeiro be invited to the next Committee on Public Safety and Neighborhoods meeting to discuss recent gang activity.

L2. WRITTEN MOTION, Councillors Coelho, Abreu, Martins and Carney, requesting, that Police Chief Cordeiro address the increase in prostitution that has occurred during recent weeks. (To be Referred to Police Chief Cordeiro.)

L3. WRITTEN MOTION, Councillors Coelho, Abreu, Martins and Carney, requesting, that the Police Department conduct extra patrols in the North End, in the areas of Coggeshall Street to Nash Road, circulating to Ashley Boulevard, and North Front Street and Belleville Avenue and the area around Monte’s Park in the South End during the summer months, due to the increase in gang and criminal activity, including shootings in broad daylight. (To be Referred to the Chief of Police and the Mayor.)
