Massachusetts State Troopers arrest man on gun charges after crashing into building

Early yesterday morning around 12:56 a.m. a Trooper assigned to Troop A of the Massachusetts State Police observed a white sedan operating with its headlights off at a slow rate of speed on Spruce Street in Chelsea.

The Trooper stopped the sedan and requested the operator’s license and registration. While shuffling through papers in the glove box the operator suddenly accelerated the vehicle fleeing the scene. The sedan was last seen by the Trooper turning left onto Williams Street. The Trooper relayed the information about the stop to dispatch.

Shortly after the Trooper was advised that Chelsea Police were off with a vehicle crash on Williams Street at Chestnut with a vehicle matching the description. The Trooper responded to the crash location. The description of the operator was given out and a search of the area was conducted. Located in the back of the sedan was a sawed-off shotgun and shotgun shells. A State Police Sergeant located a suspect matching the description. The Trooper Responded to the Sergeants location and positively identified the suspect as the operator of the sedan that had fled from him, DAVID CHEEK a 22-year-old male from Boston.

CHEEK was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital for injuries suffered in the crash.

CHEEK will appear in Court on the following charges.

01. Motor Vehicle Lights Violation;
02. Unlicensed Operation of Motor Vehicle;
03. Fail to Stop For Police;
04. Reckless Operation of Motor Vehicle;
05. Possession of Firearm;
06. Possession of Ammunition without FID Card;
07. Possession of Sawed-off Shotgun;
08. Improper Storage of Large Capacity Firearm.
