“The Massachusetts State Police Underwater Recovery Unit last week assisted the Massachusetts Environmental Police in their Officer Water Survival Training program.

Environmental Police Lt. David Unaitis explained that the training started in 2013 and is mandatory for every new MEP officer to complete in order to learn how to survive in the water while wearing full gear. The MEP provides the training to local agencies across the state; the MSP dive team was pleased for the opportunity to assist.

Some of the lessons being taught here were how to stay dry, controlled breathing, treading water, defensive tactics, and various swimming strokes.

Good luck to the new officers, and stay safe.”-Massachusetts State Police.
