Residents in both Dartmouth and Fairhaven have flooded their respective police departments with dozens of reports of vehicle break-ins and stolen possessions.

In the vast majority of the cases, the vehicles were accessed because the cars were unlocked. The thieves are checking door handles and any vehicle that is unlocked is ransacked and anything of value is taken.

At this time, it is not known if there is a connection between the two towns and whether the thieves are still active in the area.

Police are encouraging residents to stay alert and report any suspicious activity.
