City of New Bedford to remember 9/11 attacks

Monday will mark sixteen years since the terrorist attacks on the morning of September 11, 2001 that killed 2,977 people.

New Bedford will remember 9/11 with a memorial exercise by the New Bedford Fire Department to commemorate the event. Fire apparatus and available personnel will assemble in front of their respective stations throughout the city and observe a moment of silence at 10 a.m. Precisely at 10:05 a.m., the Fire Department signal room will announce over the department’s radio channel the collapse of the South Tower of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

Fire Department Chaplain Rev. Robert Oliveira of the Holy Name of the Sacred Heart Church will make a short address over the radio, followed by Mayor Jon Mitchell and other officials, before the announcement to return to service.
