To help commemorate Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III is urging the public to take part in our annual cell phone drive for victims of domestic abuse.
The Bristol County District Attorney’s office is observing Domestic Violence Awareness Month by partnering with each of the police departments across the county to collect used cell phones for the Verizon Wireless Hopeline Program. The Hopeline Program provides the partnering agencies with phones to give to victims and survivors of domestic violence. These phones are crucial in providing a safety net for those trying to end the cycle of abuse in their homes.
All phones collected will be sent to the Verizon Wireless Hopeline Project which supplies phones to victims of domestic violence with 3,000 free minutes and 9,000 free texts. Repurposed phones are distributed to victims locally through an existing partnership between you’re your local police department, the Hopeline Project and the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.
Cell phones or cell phone parts or cell phone accessories can be dropped off at any Bristol County Police Station or at one of the district attorney’s four offices in New Bedford, Fall River, Taunton and Attleboro.
Domestic Violence Awareness Month began in October of 1987, and has been observed every October since then. The purpose is to mourn and honor those who have died as a result of domestic violence, celebrate those who have survived domestic abuse and connect those who work to end the scourge of domestic violence in relationships.
District Attorney Quinn is asking all residents of Bristol County to please look through your drawers and closets, and drop off any old or broken cellphones, chargers or batteries this month.
