The South Coast Hot Jobs List – 7 November 2013

The Greater New Bedford unemployment rate is much higher than the rest of Massachusetts, but believe it or not there really are a lot of jobs available for qualified applicants. Sometimes the barrier to a new job can be the lack of information on available job openings. To solve this, each week New Bedford Guide will be working with the New Directions Southcoast (also known as the Greater New Bedford Career Center) and pulling jobs from our jobs database to inform job seekers about the hottest jobs in the area. We will define “Hot Jobs” as those jobs that need to be filled by the employer immediately. 1. Sample Maker #3234501 – Growing local high end sportswear manufacturer looking to hire a full time Sample Maker with experience. They must have experience with industrial sewing machines and know all types of sewing machines ( Single needle, double needle, overlock ).

2. Class A CDL #3238742 – Drivers required to drive according to rules of FMCSA. Responsible for delivering and picking up freight . Must have knowledge of log keeping. Good organization and customer service skills required. Clean driving record required. Mechanically inclined a plus. High School Graduate Current Class A CDL License. DOT Registered Medical Card required.

3. Prep Cook #3238830 – New Restaurant in Fairhaven looking to hire (2) Prep Cooks ASAP.

Must be experienced in short order cooking, prep work and able to follow directions. You will work directly under the Head Cook. Hours vary and must be able to cover breakfast, lunch, dinner and late night dining.

4. AirLine Service Worker #3246890 – fuel aircraft, tow aircraft, customer service, fuel inspections, building maintenance, truck maintenance.

5. Meals on Wheels Delivery Driver #3253316 – Reporting to the Transportation Coordinator, the Meals on Wheels Driver is responsible for the delivery of meals to seniors in the greater New Bedford area.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Keep delivery route sheet accurate and up to date.
• Identify meal components and understand client diet information.
• Keeping vehicle clean and fueled.
• Collecting and turning in, to the office, funds from home delivered meals clients using anonymous envelope system.
• Maintain a warm, patient and resourceful personality towards seniors while displaying and understanding and sympathetic attitude.
• Notify office if client doesn’t answer door or if any problems are discovered.
• Must be in reasonably good health and physically fit, as duties require going in and out of homes, climbing stairs, etc.
• Must have ability to pass written sanitation certificate exam, as required.
• Attend in service training outside of regularly scheduled hours.
• Inform transportation coordinator of mechanical problems with delivery truck.
• May be required to perform other duties as required.

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:

• Car and Massachusetts’s driver’s license and good driving record are required.
• Must be sensitive to the needs of the elderly and alert to changes in seniors health, attitude and general wellbeing.
• Must be able to read, speak and write English.

6. Sanitation Supervisor 3rd Shift #3274956 – APS LLS, a division of High Liner Foods, located in New Bedford, MA has an opening for a Sanitation Supervisor. This candidate is responsible for supervising the personnel on the cleanup crew in order to wash down the production areas and rest the production lines each night. Comply with sanitation standards under the current HACCP/SQF/USDC Programs. Communicate with Production Manager & Director of Maintenance to insure that all production equipment is in safe and proper worker order. Purchase and monitor inventory on soap supplies and other accessories needed on the cleanup shift.

Qualified applicants shall possess a minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience. Excellent benefits package, 401k and salary commensurate with experience.

7. Maintenance Engineer/Journeyman Plumber #3274994– Responsible for the Day to Day operation of the Plumbing Section, of the Maintenance Department.

REQUIREMENTS

• MUST HAVE AT LEAST (5) YEARS EXPERIENCE IN COMMERCIAL PLUMBING
• A JOURNEYMAN SPRINKLER FITTER LICENSE IS PREFERRED
• MUST HAVE A STATE JOURNEYMAN’S LICENSE
• MUST BE ABLE TO PERFORM REPAIRS AND UPGRADE ALL PLUMBING SYSTEMS.

8. Home Health Aides #3275020 – At least 1 1/2 years of experience is needed. All shifts available. Employer does onsite training to qualified applicants.

9. Certified Nurses Aides #3275015 – At least 1 1/2 years of experience is needed. Must have Certification. All shifts available. Employer does onsite training to qualified individuals.
