willie-weirWillie Weir, noted columnist for Adventure Cyclist magazine, and KUOW public radio commentator, will be the Keynote speaker this year’s SouthCoast Bikeway Alliance Summit. Known for high-energy, hilarious, and ultimately moving presentations, Willie promises to entertain South Coast cyclists and others with inspiring stories of the sights, sounds, smells, and tastes of bicycle travel. Stories that reflect his 60,000+ miles spent in the saddle worldwide.

Weir’s friend Tony Ionno is responsible for bringing Willie to the South Coast as part of an evening that will celebrate the 4th year of the SouthCoast Bikeway Alliance’s efforts to improve biking in the SouthCoast and “Build the Bikeway”. Ionno, and an avid local cycling proponent, is the New Bedford representative for the South Coast Bikeway Alliance and a member of the New Bedford Bicycle Committee. Bicycling enthusiasts around the region will have an opportunity to meet Willie at receptions planned both before and after the presentation.

Weir, who has cycled almost every corner of the world, has taken the theme of cycling to new creative heights. A trained actor, skilled photographer, and talented writer with two cycling memoirs to his credit, he is known for keeping a crowd in stitches recounting some of his more memorable adventures.

The South Coast Bikeway Alliance invites the general public to enjoy this presentation. Reception starts at 5PM. Presentations begin at 6pm. Other presenters include New Bedford Mayor Jon Mitchell, Fall River Mayor Will Flanagan, Representative Bill Strauss, MassBike President David Watson and East Coast Greenway Trail Coordinator Eric Weis.

This event is free and open to all. You may RSVP at www.SouthCoastBikeway.com. Donations will be gladly accepted at the door. Fort Taber Community Center is located at 1000 Rodney French Boulevard in New Bedford.
