YWCA Business Campaign for a Center City Campus for Women and Their Families

Established in 1911, the YWCA Southeastern Massachusetts is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. The YWCA invites your business to become one of fifty New Bedford area companies that will help fund the YWCA’s much-needed Levi Standish House new building addition.

Our fifty businesses will be permanently recognized in the first floor lobby of the YWCA’s modern and impressive 17,500 square foot building addition. We would be honored to welcome your participation and we ask you to consider a $500.00 tax deductible contribution, which can awarded over two years, to help support the YWCA’s $4.5 million Under One Roof campaign. Thirty businesses have already pledged their support and we only have 20 to go! Please join us and become one of our 50 businesses!

This past year, we have had tremendous response to our new building plans to include a $1 million state grant championed by our elected officials. With $742,000 left to raise and our architectural plans nearly complete for public bidding, we are preparing for a Fall 2014 groundbreaking!

New Bedford’s business community is directly connected to the health and well-being of our community. The YWCA plays a significant role in improving the lives of 4,500 women and their families each year with diverse programs and services such as: widow’s support, childcare and youth development, transitional housing for at-risk women, economic empowerment for all women, and programs aimed at eliminating racism in our communities.

Having raised and invested over $1 million on the preservation of our historic Levi Standish House on 20 South Sixth Street, we will construct a LEED-certified three-floor building addition to consolidate our core programs onto a safe, nurturing and barrier-free center city campus. The YWCA’s women’s housing and childcare programs will be significantly improved with this new addition. Furthermore, the new BayCoast Bank Teen Center and Highland Street Foundation Women’s Resource Center will be created as new community resources. This building addition will not only improve the YWCA’s program effectiveness and financial health, it will allow our 103 year-old nonprofit business to make a greater contribution to our local economy.

Please consider being a part of this project by becoming one of the 50 Businesses Under One Roof as we prepare to improve the business of helping New Bedford women and their families. To make your tax-deductible contribution to the YWCA’s Under One Roof campaign, contact Gail Fortes, Executive Director, at (508) 999-3255 or gfortes@ywcasema.org.
