Two children injured, one seriously after being hit by car while playing in box

New Bedford police are actively investigating an accident that has left two siblings injured today (Thursday) at 4:30 PM. A 6 year old boy and his 5 year old sister were playing in a cardboard box near the driveway of 43 Roosevelt Street.

The owner of the house was pulling into the driveway and could not see the cardboard box the children were playing in and ran over the box. Both children were injured as a result.

The 6 year old boy sustained minor injuries however the 5 year old girl sustained serious injuries and was med-flighted to Boston’s Children’s Hospital.

Our preliminary investigation shows this was an unfortunate accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with the 5 year old girl and her family. We are not releasing names of the victims or male driver at this time.
