Texting while driving leads to man’s arrest in Holyoke

On Jan. 14 at about 4:30 p.m., Massachusetts State Police Trooper Brandon Andrews was on patrol on Ingleside Street in Holyoke when he observed a Honda Accord stopped at a traffic light and the operator texting on his cell phone. Trooper Andrews stopped the vehicle near the intersection of Northampton Street and Whiting Farms Road.

Trooper Andrews determined the operator, JOSEPH GOGUEN, 23 of Chicopee had a suspended license and an active default warrant for operating after suspension. GOGUEN was placed under arrest, transported to the Northampton barracks for booking and held on bail at the Hampshire County jail pending his arraignment in Holyoke District Court.

GOGUEN was charged with the following offenses;

1.) Send/Read Electronic Message;
2.) Operating Motor Vehicle with License Suspended, 2nd Offense;
3.) Warrant; and
4.) License not in Possession.
