SUV slams into Massachusetts assisted living center leaving two injured

UPDATED @ 7:30am, Tuesday: The number of injured is now three.

“Fire Chief Robert Valentine would like to provide an update on the Groveland Fire Department’s response involving a car striking an assisted living center.

On Monday, July 24, at approximately 10:38 a.m., Groveland dispatchers received 911 calls reporting that a car had struck a building at 1 Nichols Way.

Upon arrival, first responders found that a Lexus RX350 driven by an 83-year-old male resident of the center had struck the building, injuring both the driver and two occupants of a multi-family unit.

The driver and one occupant, an 84-year-old woman, received medical care at the scene, and were transported by Trinity EMS ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries. The second occupant was treated on scene for their injuries.

The architectural engineer who designed the building evaluated its stability and determined that it was stable enough for the car to be removed.

The car was removed from the building at about 1:20 p.m.

The West Newbury, Georgetown, and Merrimac Fire Departments provided mutual aid at the scene.

Chief Valentine thanks the Groveland Police Department, whose members played an integral role in the response. Chief Valentine wishes to thank the West Newbury, Georgetown, and Merrimac Fire Departments for providing support, and the Fire District 5 Technical Rescue Team for its assistance.
