The New Bedford Police Department are warning the public not to fall for a scam currently happening in the area. They posted the following on social media:

***WARNING****
It has come to our attention that some individual(s) are making phone calls, identifying themselves as New Bedford police officers, informing people that they have warrants, and attempting to get them to pay money for a fine.

This is a scam.

The criminal is attempting to scare people into sending money. The callback number may even appear to be that of our station. Please do not fall for it.

Do not send money and do not provide any personal information. Hang up.

Scams like this may seem obvious or silly to some but unfortunately citizens do fall victim on a regular basis, especially in the elderly community.
