New Bedford Police hosted a promotional ceremony Friday, March 1 at Keith Middle School to honor the promotions of 11 officers.
Paul DaCosta was promoted to Captain. Jason Gomes, Stanley Chaberek, and Emanuel Cabral were promoted to Lieutenant. Daniel Amaral, Jarrod Garcia, Kurtis Gonsalves, Jamie Wotton, Barry Pacheco, Tyrone Jones, and Russell Marques were promoted to Sergeant.
Capt. DaCosta has served with the Department since 2001 and has served as Lieutenant for the past three years.
Lt. Gomes started with the Department in 2000 and has been a Sergeant for the past 10 years. Lt. Chaberek began in 1999 and was promoted to Sergeant in 2017. Lt. Cabral has served on the force since 1998 and as a Sergeant since 2013.
Sgt. Amaral was appointed to the force in 1996. Sgt. Garcia and Sgt. Pacheco have served the Department since 2003.Sgt. Gonsalves and Sgt. Wotton have served since 2004. Sgt. Jones has served the Department since 1992. Sgt. Marques began in 1993.
All 11 officers promoted Friday have received various commendations for their work on the New Bedford Police Department.
Police Chief Joseph Cordeiro said, “I am ecstatic that we are able to promote eleven individuals who will provide the leadership in navigating our department successfully and professionally, while embodying the community policing philosophy. This is a team of all stars with a history of professional success and experiences. I am optimistic for the positive impact they will have in our department and community.”
