New Bedford police detectives assigned to the Narcotics and Gang Units have arrested a 14-year-old juvenile on gun charges.

On August 13th, detectives received information that a juvenile was in possession of a .22 caliber handgun around Temple Landing. Upon observing this male at the Chancery St./Middle St. intersection, detectives stopped him.

While searching a cross body bag the juvenile was wearing, a .22 caliber Smith & Wesson pistol loaded with 5 rounds of ammunition was located. A subsequent check revealed the gun to have been stolen out of Rochester, MA. The juvenile was taken into custody.

The arresting officer was Det. Samuel Algarin-Mojica.

This is a great example of law enforcement using information provided by the community to take a dangerous weapon off the street and prevent potential tragedy.
