New Bedford man sent to hospital after being attacked by seven men

A 38-year old New Bedford man was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital early Friday after being attacked by seven people, one of whom struck him in the head with a 2×4.

The man was found by police near the front door of a Bullard Street residence. He told police he was attacked by seven people on Beetle Street, One of the people hit him with a 2×4.

He said he was picked up by an unidentified woman on Sawyer Street. She dropped him off at the Bullard Street location.

The victim said his wallet, which contained no cash, and his cell phone were stolen. Medical personnel discovered two injuries to the top of his head consistent with being hit by a 2×4. He was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital.

The incident was reported at 12:12 a.m. by Officers Nathan Avelar and Eric Cardoso. The case is being investigated by Det. Kevin Lawless, 508-991-6300, ext. 79505.
