New Bedford man robbed of backpack containing large amount of jewelry and cash

On Thursday the 23rd of February at approximately 3:30PM, a 47 year old New Bedford man reported that a backpack containing a large amount of jewelry and cash was stolen from his vehicle which was parked in front of the Expo’s market located at 311 Dartmouth Street.

The victim claimed he had gone into the store briefly but left his vehicle running with the doors unlocked. Upon returning to his vehicle he discovered the backpack and it’s contents missing.

A female of interest was sought and located by detectives on Friday the 24th. The female who was identified as Heather Leigh Amaral, 35, of New Bedford was arrested and charged with:

1. Breaking and entering a motor vehicle in the daytime with intent to commit a felony
2. Larceny over $250.00

Detectives were able to recover all of the jewelry and a portion of the cash that was stolen.

      That’s so true no one in New Bedford with money and jewelery like that would leave it in an unlocked motor vehicle
