New Bedford man arrest for lighting car on fire on Coggeshall Street

New Bedford Police arrested a male early Saturday morning in connection to breaking into a motor vehicle and setting the interior console on fire.

Officers were dispatched to the area of 725 Coggeshall Street at approximately 2:45 am on Saturday morning. Officers encounter a Honda Pilot with the interior console on fire. Officers quickly extinguished the fire with the help of New Bedford Fire Department. Witnesses provided officers with a detail description of the male. Officers located the male fitting the description given by witnesses a short distance away. Male fled upon seeing police but was apprehended after a short foot pursuit. Male was identified as 28-year old Ryan Pelletier of New Bedford.

Pelletier was arrested and charged with:

1. B&E into a motor vehicle night time felony
2. Burn motor vehicle
3. Attempt to commit a crime.

During the arrest Pelletier was found in possession of a great amount of loose change. Additional charges may follow.
