A New Bedford High Engineering Academy student team will be rubbing shoulders with U.S. Navy and Coast Guard, the office of Naval research and leaders in the field of robotics at this weekend’s third National SeaPerch Challenge in Indianapolis. Sponsored in part by the New Bedford Education Foundation, the students from New Bedford High School’s Robotics class have given up their vacation time and spent months during and after school assembling a unique under water remotely operated vehicle (ROV). Touching down in Indianapolis today, over the next 48 hours the Whalers are up against 100 teams from all over the nation. The students’ ROV will have to complete a diverse range of underwater challenges and the team’s design will be assessed for technical and safety standards with points awarded or deducted in each competitive category.
