New Bedford High School student found with 5 shotgun shells at school

Yesterday morning New Bedford High School Resource Officer John Ribeiro was informed by a school administrator that a 17 year old student was found in possession of a small amount of marijuana and 6 shotgun shells. He was placed under arrest and his mother notified. A consent search by the mother was later granted and the juvenile’s bedroom was searched by the officers, As a result, officers found an additional 17 shotgun shells and 5 .22 caliber rounds of ammunition. Also found in a closet was a dismantled sawed off shotgun that consisted of three parts that can be assembled and disassembled by design.

The juvenile shares the room with his 14 year old brother.

He was later arraigned in Juvenile court on various firearms charges.

There is no evidence that he intended to bring the weapon onto school property.
