New Bedford fire fighters respond to grease fire at Car Barn

New Bedford fire fighters responded this afternoon to a 3rd floor fire at the Car Barn housing facility in New Bedford. Five people suffered injuries; four from smoke inhalation and one from lacerations. One family was displaced. The cause of the fire was a grease fire that started in a 3rd floor kitchen.

NBFD Chief Gomes reported heavy smoke when fire fighters arrived and fire fighters conducted a search, rescue and removal of dozens of people, mostly elderly. Engine 1 was first on the scene.
