“Due to the unexpected breakdown of one of our apparatus, which cannot be returned to service, the Department recently made the emergency purchase of a lightly used 2005 quint, which has now arrived in New Bedford.
The new quint has 31,000 miles and is in very good condition, replacing a 2003 quint with over 100,000 miles and which is no longer functional. As we continue to maintain our fleet, we will be in a good position using this quint until a new truck is manufactured for the New Bedford Fire Department.
Our firefighters are being trained on the new equipment this week, and once training is complete, the truck will enter service at Station 8, and we will be able to return the ladder truck currently operating from Station 8 back to reserve status.
As we continue to maintain our fleet, we will be in a good position using this truck on an interim basis until a permanent front-line ladder truck is manufactured for the New Bedford Fire Department.
