UPDATE (Monday, March 29, 7:00pm): Organizers of the 2022 Feast of the Blessed Sacrament have named Led Zeppelin tribute band, “Get the Led Out,” as the headlining act for this year’s celebration. The cover band does such a fantastic job of playing all our favorite Led Zeppelin songs that Led Zeppelin themselves declared them “the greatest Led Zeppelin tribute band ever.”

The COVID pandemic had a marked impact on everyone’s lives these past 3 years. Changed were our everyday routines and gone were many of our social activities. One of those activities that not only greater New Bedford and the South Coast residents missed, but people as far away as Europe did as well, was the Feast of the Blessed Sacrament or what is known locally as simply “The Feast.”

Well, we have some good news: the Feast of the Blessed Sacrament will be returning this year!

Rick Fernandes, president of the 106th feast, recently announced the good news and is confident that this year’s celebration will be special, “Together with this year’s committee, Club SS Sacramento Members, the City of New Bedford, and all of the support from you, will make this the greatest feast ever!” he said.

That means 4 days of live music on 4 stages, freshly made malassadas, grilling your own carne de espeto, Madeira wine, concession stands, rides for the kids as well as activities, food trucks, Grupo Folclorico, reuniting with old pals and more.

The 106th annual celebration of the Feast of the Blessed Sacrament will take place on the Madeira Field from August 4-7th. The hours are as follows:

• August 4, 2022 – Thursday – 6:00 PM – 11:45 PM
• August 5, 2022 – Friday – 12 Noon – 11:45 PM
• August 6, 2022 – Saturday – 12 Noon – 11:45 PM
• August 7, 2022 – Sunday – 12 Noon – 11:45 PM

OPENING DAY:

The Feast of the Blessed Sacrament commences Thursday with the assembly of the Festeiros (Feast Committee Members) at the intersection of Earle Street and Acushnet Avenue. Led by the Feast President, the Festeiros march in a special procession down Earle Street to Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Church which is located at the corner of Earle Street and Madeira Avenue. At the church, Father Daniel O. Reis celebrates a special Benediction to the Blessed Sacrament.
