Murder suspect of 20-year old New Bedford man still at large

The murder suspect of a 20-year old man is still at large. SWAT made entry at 144-146 Matthew Street, the suspects residence, but he was not there. A gun was found, but police do not know yet if it was used in the homicide. The victim’s identity is being withheld at this time to await confirmed next of kin notification.

Earlier report:

A 20-year old New Bedford man was shot multiple times around 11am near the intersection of Matthew Street and Bank Street near the Rural Cemetery. Police arrived to find a young man laying on the ground with multiple gun shot wounds. He was taken to St. Luke’s hospital where he was pronounced dead before noon. Police are treating it as a homicide.

New Bedford police, New Bedford S.W.A.T and MA State police have the house at 144-146 Matthew Street surrounded where they believe the shooter is located. They are preparing to make entry.
