Senator Montigny Announces Acushnet Mobile Home Rent Control Bill Signed Into Law

Senator Mark Montigny is pleased to announce that the Home Rule Petition bill providing for rent control for mobile home parks in Acushnet was signed into law by the Governor today.

The Bill was filed by Senator Montigny and Representative Koczera after it was approved by a majority of Acushnet Town Meeting members. The bill permits the Town to establish a rent control board, appointed by Selectmen, for the purpose of regulating rents, minimum standards and evictions from mobile home housing communities in Acushnet.

“Acushnet gave serious deliberation on this issue and has determined that it is in the best interest of its residents. Many of the people affected by this new law are seniors on fixed incomes and limited resources. This law will ensure that any actions taken by mobile home landlords toward them will be reviewed by a neutral body in order to ensure the residents are able to live independently in their own homes and maintain their well-being”, said Senator Montigny.
