“On Saturday, November 23, 2019, Massachusetts Environmental Police Officers assisted the Capron Zoo and the New England Wildlife Center with the immobilization and transport of Kayla, a 15-year-old lioness, to the Massachusetts Veterinary Referral facility in Woburn.

Kayla had recently been experiencing medical issues which resulted in the need for the examination. A Sergeant with the MEP Large Animal Response Team (LART) and a Regional Lieutenant provided assistance in securing, escorting, and providing security for Kayla during the process.

The Massachusetts Environmental Police Large Animal Response Team traditionally handles moose, bear, and deer; however, this unique coordinated effort between all four entities ensured a successful experience for Kayla, who now is back resting comfortably at the Capron Zoo.” -Massachusetts State Police.
