Unresponsive New Bedford Man Found Slumped Over Wheel After Overdosing While Driving

On Saturday, October 8th at approximately 8am, Officer Michael Mello was dispatched to a call of an erratic driver now slumped over the wheel. Upon his arrival in the 500 block of West Rodney French Blvd. he observed a vehicle facing south on the north bound lane.

The operator who was unresponsive was administered NARCAN by the New Bedford Fire Department. An uncapped needle was also located in the vehicle. Operator was transported to St. Lukes’s Hospital due to being administered the Narcan. There were no injuries or property damage.

Operator is identified as Jose Amorin 10/15/68 of 54 Willard Street New Bedford. He is charged with:

  1. Operating under the influence of drugs
  2. Operating to endanger

An immediate threat form for revocation of his license was also submitted to the Registry of Motor Vehicles.
