LifeStream is now accepting applications for its 2019 Sandra M. Cabral Nursing Scholarship

The scholarship, established in 2000, honors the noteworthy contributions to the field of nursing made by former LifeStream employee Sandra M. Cabral, who was a registered nurse and nursing coordinator.

Reflecting Cabral’s career and LifeStream’s mission, the scholarship is offered to enhance the quality of medical support available to people with disabilities living in community settings.

The $2,000 scholarship is awarded annually to one student. Eligible applicants must be pursuing a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse degree, at a college or university, and be able to demonstrate a firm commitment to assisting people with disabilities in community-based settings currently or upon graduation. Deadline for applications is October 31, 2019. Announcement of the award will be made by November 30, 2019.

Eligibility Criteria:
• Students must be pursuing a Registered Nurse (RN) degree or Licensed Practical Nurse degree at a college or university
• Students must demonstrate a firm commitment to working with people with disabilities in community-based settings at the present time or upon graduation
• Preference will be given to residents of the Greater New Bedford area, including the towns of Acushnet, Dartmouth, Fairhaven, Gosnold, Marion, Mattapoisett, New Bedford, Rochester and Wareham

In addition to the one-page application and statement of financial need, a 250-word essay is required. The essay should reflect applicants’ commitment to people with developmental disabilities and the intention to utilize their degree to enhance the quality of life for community members with disabilities after graduation.

All applicants must submit an official post-secondary transcript along with the application. Applications received without a transcript will be considered incomplete. Deadline for the scholarship is October 31st, although this might be extended. Applicants may download the application below:
