Massachusetts State Police seek public’s help in locating vehicle in fatal Hit-and-Run

The Massachusetts State Police continue to investigate the fatal pedestrian hit-and-run that occurred on the night of Monday, Sept. 16, on Interstate 95 southbound in Attleboro and are asking for the public’s help in locating a vehicle of interest.

The State Police Detective Unit for Bristol County is looking for a white Cadillac Escalade sport utility vehicle that likely has front end damage. The vehicle should have a broken headlight. The vehicle may be operated a white female, who is believed to be approximately 5’4” tall and about 160 lbs.

The hit-and-run occurred on September 19 between 9:30-9:45 p.m. on the southbound side of Interstate 95, prior to Exit 1, in Attleboro. The victim in the crash has been identified by State Police as John E. Gauthier, 50, who is believed to have been homeless but who also is believed to have ties to Pawtucket, R.I.

The ongoing investigation into the crash is being led by the State Police Detective Unit for Bristol County with assistance from Troop H of the Massachusetts State Police, the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section.

Anyone who recognizes this vehicle or has information about the crash, the vehicle or the possible operator is asked to contact Trooper McKelligan of the State Police Detective Unit for Bristol County at 508-993-2016.
