New Bedford Fire Department’s Ladder 3 struck by truck that ran a red light

New Bedford Fire Department’s Ladder 3 was struck by a white pick-up truck on Wednesday, April 20, 2016, around 8pm yesterday on the way back to the fire station.

According to the New Bedford Police Department, Ladder 3 was traveling west on Potomska Street and was hit by the truck as it ran through a red light heading south on Route 18. The New Bedford Fire Department reports that Ladder 3 had a green light, but did come to a stop to try to avoid the truck. After hitting Ladder 3, the pick-up truck continued and knocked down a light pole. Witnesses on the scene report that the driver of the white pick-up truck was driving erratically moments before the driver ran the red light.

The driver was taken to Rhode Island hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
