An Evening of Irish Music and Songs with John Doyle and Colin Farrell

Guitar master and singer John Doyle accompanied by fiddler Colin Farrell brings his acclaimed Irish music and songs to the Music in the Gallery series on Friday, October 21, 2016 at 7:30 PM in the beautiful James Arnold Mansion, owned by the Wamsutta Club, 427 County Street (at the corner of Union Street), New Bedford, MA. Tickets are $20 in advance online and $25 at the door. Music in the Gallery is presented by the Music Directors of the New Bedford Folk Festival. Music in the Gallery concerts are open to the general public. All are welcome to this lovely, unique music experience.

Immensely talented and blessed with an acute ear, a wicked sense of rhythm and a seemingly endless stream of magic in his guitar playing, composing, performing and producing, John Doyle is solidly establishing himself as one of the most versatile, creative and prolific voices in folk and traditional Irish music. He has a rhythmic guitar style like no other and his playing has become one of the defining features of today’s contemporary Irish sound. Apart from his own solo work, he served as bandleader for the Joan Baez Band and was a founding member of the Irish American supergroup Solas. As a member of Solas, John performed internationally to sold out audiences and appeared on many television and radio programs, including NBC’s The Today Show, A Prairie Home Companion, Mountain Stage, E-Town and World Cafe. As part of that critically acclaimed group, he also received three NAIRD awards and a Grammy nomination. He has produced and appeared on dozens of albums by other artists including Eileen Ivers, Tim O’Brien, Linda Thompson, Seamus Egan, Alison Brown and Kate Rusby; and has developed compelling duo performances, first with fiddler Liz Carroll and more recently with Solas’ co-founding vocalist Karan Casey. His instrumental prowess contributed to his 2010 Grammy nomination for Best Traditional World Music album for his collaboration with fiddler Liz Carroll on Double Play. As the music reviewer for the Irish Edition wrote “Whether playing in a band, as an accompanist, or as a solo performer, John Doyle has a magical touch, always providing exactly what is needed: the right progression, a nimble melody, a delicate harmony line; a dream guitarist.”

Colin Farrell has made a name for himself performing and recording with an array of great musicians in Europe and the US, including such groups as Flook, Grada, E2K, The Liam O’Connor Band, Karen Casey, The Elders, Julie Fowlis, The Michael McGoldrick Band and is currently playing with the band Lúnasa. Colin’s 2010 solo debut album ‘On The Move’ was named one of the years 10 best albums by The Irish Echo and his second album ‘Make A Note’ released in 2015 was awarded Instrumental Album of the year by liveIreland.
