Homicide Investigation Underway in New Bedford

New Bedford Police, Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to this office and prosecutors from District Attorney Sam Sutter’s Homicide Unit are actively investigating a homicide which occurred in the City of New Bedford early Thursday morning.

Police and rescue personnel received 911 calls Thursday around 1:14 a.m. to respond to the area of Myrtle Street and Cedar Grove Street in New Bedford. Upon arrival, emergency responders discovered an individual suffering from life-threatening injuries. The individual was immediately transported to St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford where he was later pronounced dead.

The victim has been identified as Patrick Alves, 23, of New Bedford.

The State Medical Examiner’s Office will take custody of the deceased and will perform an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death.

The investigation is being coordinated by Co-First Assistant District Attorney William McCauley.
