New Bedford Police, Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to this office and prosecutors from District Attorney Sam Sutter’s Homicide Unit are actively investigating the deaths of two persons found in a Brock Avenue residence in New Bedford on Wednesday.
Police and rescue personnel received 911 calls Wednesday around 4:30 p.m. to respond to 598 Brock Avenue in New Bedford. Upon arrival, emergency responders located a male and female victim. Both were found dead at the scene.
The victims have been identified as 22-year-old Sharif Goode, and 22-year-old Mabilia Maranhao. The two individuals were in a dating relationship and the location in which the two were found appears to be Goode’s residence. It is unknown whether Maranhao was living with Goode at the time.
After a preliminary investigation, the incident appears to be a murder-suicide, however investigators are still processing evidence. The State Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death.
The investigation is being coordinated by Assistant District Attorney Dennis Collins.
