Fairhaven Democrats to Caucus March 19; Elect Delegates to State Convention

Fairhaven, MA – The Fairhaven Democratic Town Committee will meet at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 19th at Millicent Library to elect town Democratic officers and delegates to the Massachusetts Democratic Party state convention. Local Democratic Committee officers and delegates have a vote at annual state Democratic Party conventions approve the party’s platform, to approve the party platform, elect delegates to the national convention.

When: Saturday, March 19th 9:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
Where: Millicent Library, 45 Center Street, Fairhaven, MA 02179
Why: To elect town delegates to the Massachusetts State Democratic Convention. Delegates to the state convention are then eligible to run for a state delegate the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, Penn., July 25-28, 2016.
How: Attend the caucus to run or vote for delegates to the state convention. There is no cost to attend, and it is open to members of the public to observe. Registered Democrats, regardless of past political experience, can run for a delegate position.

With so much enthusiasm from the Hillary & Bernie campaigns, this state convention is going to be very exciting. We think this year is a great time to invite new voters to join the party. To encourage new and diverse participation, at the caucus even young democrats who are not yet eligible voters will also have an opportunity to represent Fairhaven as part of a youth delegation. Youth delegates are invited to attend the convention, just as any other representative. There are also delegate seats set aside for people with disabilities, and people of color who are under-represented in politics.

“Fairhaven Democrats are already excited about working to elect responsible leaders for our community. Our caucus provides a great opportunity for anyone who wants to be part of Fairhaven’s grassroots politics,” said Diana Painter the Fairhaven Town Democratic Committee chair.

“Fairhaven residents are eager to elect representatives who will work to create good jobs and expand opportunities for middle class families,” said Christine Lavault, Democratic Town Committee Secretary. “The fight to elect those representatives – strong Democrats up and down the ticket including a Democratic President, begins with March 19th’s caucus.”
