Massachusetts State Police last week issued a criminal citation to the driver of a the pickup truck that caused a school bus full of students to crash on Route 95 in Weston on Jan. 11.

SCOTT D. ROSSI, 29, of Belmont, was issued a summons ordering him to appear in Waltham District Court on the following charges: negligent operation of a motor vehicle; unsafe lane change; and failure to use care in passing.

The State Police investigation determined that ROSSI, who was operating a leased 2016 Chevrolet Silverado, crossed multiple lanes of the busy highway at highway speed, moving left to right without taking proper precautions to check if there was a vehicle to his right. The pickup struck the school bus, which was traveling in the right lane. The impact caused the bus to crash through the guardrail and partially roll
over.

A trooper served ROSSI with the citation in person at the Brighton Barracks on Jan. 18. The court will schedule a date for ROSSI to appear.

As previously noted, all 22 middle school students on the bus were examined at area hospitals and released the same day; approximately 10 had suffered minor injuries. The bus driver and monitor were also examined and released that day.
