Deceased driver pulled from pond East Longmeadow

UPDATE #2: Occupant of the vehicle is deceased. The occupant was extricated by firefighters prior to MSP diving on the vehicle. MSP divers rigged the car for removal from the pond. The vehicle was in approximately 8 feet of water.

UPDATE #1: The vehicle has been recovered, the vehicle had one occupant who was transported to Baystate Medical Center, unknown on prognosis.

ORIGINAL REPORT: Shortly after 3 a.m. emergency personnel, including East Longmeadow Police and Fire, State Troopers from the MSP Springfield Barracks, and Springfield Police responded to Heritage Park on Main Street in East Longmeadow for a vehicle that had driven into a pond and become submerged.

Preliminary investigation suggests there may be at least one body in the vehicle.

The Massachusetts State Police Underwater Recovery Unit responded to recover the body and search for any others.

The State Police Detective Unit for Hampden County and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section have also responded. The State Police Detective Unit, which is attached to the District Attorney’s Office, will lead any death investigation(s) stemming from the incident with the assistance of Crime Scene Services Troopers and other personnel.
