Friends of Buttonwood Park recently received a $10,000 grant from the Henry H. Crapo Foundation Fund of the Community Foundation of Southeastern Massachusetts to help build three new basketball courts. With this grant, Friends of Buttonwood Park has now raised over $60,000 of the $150,000 needed to complete the project.
Craig Dutra, president of the Community Foundation, believes that the new basketball courts will have a positive impact on the community. “The Crapo Fund Advisors and the Community Foundation have seen first-hand the value that these facilities have for the community and are pleased to invest in this,” Mr. Dutra said.
Anne Eades, president of Friends of Buttonwood Park, remarked, “We’re very grateful for the overwhelming support we’ve received from local community organizations, without whose help none of this would be possible. The Friends are looking forward to breaking ground for the new courts in spring 2014.”
The basketball court project is part of Buttonwood on the Move, a fitness initiative launched by Friends of Buttonwood Park last year. The organization plans to build three basketball courts, including new asphalt playing surfaces, hoop systems, landscaping, lighting, and bleachers. Future Buttonwood on the Move projects will include improving the park’s walking trails and tennis courts.
