About City on a Hill
Opened in 1995 as a single high school, City on a Hill is expanding to a network of three high schools. City on a Hill II opened this August and City on a Hill New Bedford will open in August of 2014 with a 9th grade. Founded on the belief that all students can achieve, CoaH sets high standards for all students and empowers teachers in the decision-making process to implement those standards. City on a Hill schools are tuition-free and open to all students in the cities of Boston and New Bedford. There is no entrance exam; students are admitted by a random lottery with new students admitted in the ninth grade only. Small by design, each school allows for a maximum enrollment of 280 students in grades 9-12. Regardless of their prior educational attainment 100% of City on a Hill’s graduates earn college acceptance.
