60-year old man wounded in New Bedford gang shootout released from hospital

New Bedford Police Detectives are still actively investigating a shooting incident that sent a 60 year old New Bedford man to Rhode Island Hospital.

The victim was released from Rhode Island Hospital last night. The victim was shot by a stray bullet while in his apartment at 50 Tallman Street. It appears that minutes before the victim was shot, there was an exchange of gun fire by two groups of individuals. New Bedford police beleive the shooting between the two groups was gang related but has not been confirmed. There has also been rumor that a young girl was shot or grazed by bullet, but according to New Bedford police that information is false. There are no other reports of other injuries.

Detectives are following up on several leads and are asking anyone with additional information to contact them at 508-992-7463 or at tip@newbedfordpd.com. Meantime police have increased patrols and presence in that area.
