19-year old New Bedford man arrested for OUI drugs with loaded handgun

Police took a fully loaded firearm off the street Thursday at 10:08 p.m. and arrested a New Bedford man during a motor vehicle stop for erratic driving.

Trentin Joshua-Marshal Cruz, 19, of New Bedford, was arrested for OUI drugs, carrying a loaded firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, carrying a firearm without a license, unlawful possession of a large capacity magazine, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and a marked lanes violation.

Police stopped Cruz at Route 18 north near Potomska Street after he was observed swerving in the northbound lane at Brock Avenue and crossing the double yellow lane.

When police stopped the vehicle, officers detected a strong odor of marijuana from inside the vehicle. As a result of the investigation, Cruz was determined to be under the influence of the drug.

Further investigation revealed a fully loaded firearm with 17 rounds of ammunition in the vehicle. Cruz was not licensed to possess the firearm.
