New Bedford police took a loaded firearm off the street Wednesday and arrested a 16-year-old New Bedford resident after making a traffic stop.
The juvenile was arrested on charges of carrying a loaded firearm, carrying a firearm without a license and motor vehicle violations after a traffic stop near Cedar and Smith streets.
Police officers seized a .22 caliber H&R revolver, which was loaded with eight rounds of ammunition.
The juvenile was charged with carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm, failing to stop, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and defective equipment.
He was arrested at 4:32 p.m. He was arraigned Thursday in juvenile court and will be held until a dangerous hearing Feb. 7.
