The Women’s Center hosting activities for national Domestic Violence Awareness Month

October is national Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The Women’s Center will be hosting activities in New Bedford during the month to give the public the opportunity to show support for local victims and their families, renew their commitment to nonviolence, and heighten awareness in our community.

The month starts off with a Tree Lighting on Thursday October 1st at 7:00pm on the steps of New Bedford City Hall. A short program will precede the lighting of a tree with purple lights in remembrance and support of victims of domestic violence and abuse. The color purple signifies support for victims and the prevention of domestic violence. The tree will be lit each night throughout the month of October.
