Glorious, glorious weather this weekend. We’ll be close to 60 degrees all weekend and the sun will grace us with its presence for most of the weekend, excepting Sunday, where we will experience an afternoon shower or two. The “feels like” temperature for Friday and Saturday will be 65 degrees! The evenings and mornings will be cool. Perfect for sleeping and going for a morning stroll.

Friday, April 24th

Spring Zoo Crew at Buttonwood Park Zoo (9:00am-4:00pm)
What do you think it takes to be the best mom or dad in the animal world? Join us as we count down some of the most extreme animal moms and dads. Sign up for one day or all four! Cost: $40/day for Zoo Member; $45/day for Non-member. Ages: 6-10 year olds; 20 kid max/10 kid minimum.

Painting with a Splash: Two Fish in the Sea (5 and up), Ice Cream (Family), and Starry Night (11:00am, 11:00am, 7:00pm)
Welcome to Painting with a Splash where you are the artist! Painting with a Splash is the newest addition to Historic Whaling City Downtown New Bedford. Bringing you an experience of art as entertainment. Add a little wine (BYOB) that will surely tap into your creative side. With step by step instruction and a little music, you and your friends will create the evening’s featured painting with a splash of your own uniqueness. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY! Just a desire to have fun.

Alice In Wonderland (Fairhaven) (7:00pm)
ONE Theater Group presents a production of Alice in Wonderland at the beautiful, historic Fairhaven Town Hall auditorium. Show times are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday at 2:00p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children. Tickets may be purchased at the door or reserved in advance at 508-525-9972 or by emailing onetheatergroup@gmail.com. All of the show’s proceeds will benefit Community Autism Resources, a regional service agency that assists children and families in the SouthCoast who are living with autism. Handicap accessible. Saturday, April 25th

Pancake Breakfast at Trinity Lutheran Church (Fairhaven) (8:00am-11:00am)
To benefit Fairhaven High School’s “Gentle Folk in Lab Coats” team, which will be traveling to the Washington, D.C., area for the Team America Rocketry Challenge final fly-off in May. Tickets available from team members or by email at thegentlefolkinlabcoats@gmail.com.

Dollar-a-Bag book Sale (Fairhaven) (9:00am-1:00pm)
We welcome you to come and fill a bag of good reads for only a dollar! The Oxford Book Haven & Cafe is located downstairs in the Church of the Good Shepherd, 357 Main St., Fairhaven. There is a large selection to choose from. Home-made dessert, coffee, and other beverages available. 1 Temple Place, Fairhaven.

Book Fair (Westport) (9:00am)
Pastry and beverages will be available. If you have books you wish to donate, please call Mary at 508 636-4282 or Joanne at 508 636-4852 and they can arrange for delivery. The Revival Thrift Store will be open at 9 a.m. All proceeds from the fundraiser will be used to help our community and keep the doors of the church open. Westport United Congregational Church, 500 American Legion Highway.

Indoor Yard Sale (Acushnet) (9:00am-2:00pm)
Indoor, multi-family yard sale. Clothing, knick knacks, jams/jellies and much more! Handicap accessible, ample parking. Acushnet Council on Aging, 59 South Main Street.

X-Scapers at Gallery X: “Painting the Landscape from Life” (10:00am)
Gallery X will be offering a series of outdoor landscape painting sessions on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. This will not be a class, but a group to encourage painting the landscape from real life. All talent levels welcome and encouraged. Paul Victor Menard, a distinguished local painter will host event and we hope to have regular guest artists to meet and share experience with the group.

The event would start at 10am sharp at Gallery X (unless otherwise noted) and group would paint until 1:00. This would also give artists a chance to return to their paintings if they want to continue. The first few sessions would take place in downtown area but will move to outside areas of artist choice. We are planning to have an exhibition of work by X-Scaper Artists in 2016. Please RSVP if you can. Artists are responsible for all their own supplies, canvases, easels, etc.. UMass MFA Thesis Exhibition (3:00pm)
The opening reception of the 2015 MFA thesis exhibition culminates the two to three years of intensive research and preparation of UMass Dartmouth MFA degree candidates in the visual art. Thesis work from Artistry, Design, and Fine Arts at UMass Dartmouth on view from Apr 11 to May 17, 2015. Other events include The Creative Complex: A Ceramic Post-Bac Exhibition until April 15. Sunday, April 26th

West Island 5K Run/Walk Kid’s Mile Fun Run (11:00am)
Everyone’s favorite bowling center will be hosting a special event: Bowl-A-Thon – a fundraiser for their FREE Youth Creative Careers Program. You can come alone and they will find you a team, you can form your own team of 4-6 players, or sponsor a bowler. Registration is 12:30pm-1:00pm and the award ceremony will take place from 3-4:00pm. WWII Exercise Tiger Ceremony to Honor Soldiers (1:00pm)
The City of New Bedford Veterans’ Advisory Board and the Fort Rodman – Fort Taber Historical Association will honor the 749 United States sailors and soldiers who lost their lives during the devastating April 28, 1944 attack on the United States military training operation, Exercise Tiger.

Exercise Tiger was a D-Day dry run which was ambushed by a German E-boat flotilla and resulted in America’s costliest incident of World War II, second only to Pearl Harbor. The surprise attack sank two American vessels and severely damaged a third. This year marks the 71st Anniversary of Exercise Tiger. Read more by clicking thread title.

Pinkalicious: The Musical 2015 (2:00pm)
Pinkalicious loves all things pink – most especially pink cupcakes! Her parents warn her not to eat too many, but when she breaks the rules she turns pink! Join Pinkalicious and her family on a glittering musical adventure to discover the importance of being yourself – and eating your vegetables! With lyrics written by the book’s original authors, Elizabeth & Victoria Kann, pink enthusiasts of all ages (and their cupcake-loving brothers) will crave a taste of this whimsical production!

50th Anniversary Spring Concert (Marion) (3:00pm)
The Sippican Choral Society Celebrates its 50th Anniversary in a Joint Concert with the Tri-Town Symphonic Band. The concert will be in the Fireman Performing Arts Center in Hoyt Hall at Tabor Academy. Tickets are $15 adults, $7 children under 18 available at The Bookstall in Marion. Doors will open at 2:30 pm for the 3:00 pm concert, and the venue is wheelchair accessible.
