Wareham police charge man with OUI and attempting to escape lock-up

On Wednesday, August 30th at approximately 12:30 pm, officers of the Wareham Police Department, along with Wareham EMS and Onset Fire Department personnel responded to the area of Sand N’ Surf on Rte. 6&28 regarding a motor vehicle accident involving two vehicles traveling westbound. The initial report included the fact that a Jeep Renegade occupied by 3 young children and 2 adults was struck in the rear by a red Hyundai Elantra that left the scene at a high rate of speed after the impact.

While responding to the scene of the accident, Wareham EMS personnel noticed the red Hyundai with extensive front end damage operated by a male later identified as 25 year old Wareham resident Zachary Perocchi pull into the Lakeside Trailer Park off Rte. 6&28, which is located approximately 1 mile from where the accident occurred.

Upon arrival at Lakeside Trailer Park, officers immediately noticed the operator of the Hyundai, 25 year old Zachary Perocchi (Lakeside Trailer Park resident) appeared extremely intoxicated, as he smelled of alcohol and slurred his words as he spoke. After failing sobriety tests, Mr. Perocchi, was placed under arrest and transported to the Wareham Police Department, where he attempted to escape from custody in the station booking area, but was quickly apprehended.

Although both vehicles sustained extensive damage, there were no reported injuries as a result of the incident.

Zachary Perocchi, age 25 of #16 Lakeside Trailer Park East Wareham, was arrested and charged with the following:

1. OUI – Liquor
2. Leaving the Scene After Causing Property Damage
3. Operating to Endanger
4. Operating After License Suspension
5. Escape From a Municipal Lock-Up Facility
