Bicyclist struck and killed by UPS truck in Newton under investigation

NEWTON – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Newton Chief of Police John Carmichael have confirmed the investigation into a fatal bicycle crash that occurred today in Newton.

On August 28, 2023, at approximately 5:24 p.m., Newton Police responded to the intersection of Watertown Street and Bridge Street for a report of a crash involving a bicyclist and a motor vehicle. Upon arrival, police located a bicyclist, a 57 year old male of Newton. He was transported to Brigham and Women’s Hospital where he subsequently died from injuries sustained in the crash.

The preliminary investigation suggests that a UPS truck was traveling eastbound on Watertown St. turning left onto Bridge Street and that the bicyclist was traveling westbound on Watertown Street at the time of the crash. The driver of the UPS vehicle, a 57-year-old Newton man, remained on scene. The Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section will conduct the reconstruction of the crash.

This is an open and ongoing investigation being conducted by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Newton Police and Massachusetts State Police CARS.”-Newton Police Department.
