UPDATE (9:00am, Oct. 29th): With tropical moisture moving into New England today that means heavy rains throughout the day, but on Friday morning that rain will switch over to snow. While only a coating is expected that means a messy morning commute.

Here is the original article:

It’s only October, but meteorologists are already bantering about the four-letter swear word, “snow.” But it’s 2020 and nothing should surprise us anymore.

Our current Atlantic Hurricane season is now tied for a record made in 2005 with its number of “named” storms, Zeta being the 27th of the season.

Tropical Storm Zeta is currently 200 miles southeast of Cozumel, Mexico moving northward at a snail’s pace of 5 mph but with winds of 70 mph. Zeta is predicted to strengthen to a hurricane – possibly as high as Category 2 – on Tuesday before downgrading to a tropical storm again. Then it will barrel northeast on a beeline for New England arriving in Massachusetts on early Friday.

Initially, the storm will bring moderate to heavy rainfall which in itself hazardous enough with its local flooding and dangerous driving conditions. As evening approaches however much stronger showers and winds will prevail as will falling temperatures. Depending on those temperatures that means “just” rain, or rain changing over to slushy mix, or snow. Either way, the evening commute will not be a pleasant one.

On Saturday the hazardous weather conditions will persist because of how slowly Zeta is moving. That means more rain or snow throughout the day.
